MAMP with XHProf

MAMP doesn't come with XHProf support by default and sometimes we need more than just a simple debug tool with Xdebug.

Just for the record, I'm posting this in the current version of MAMP, that is 2.1.1 and in the Mountain Lion OSX 10.8.1 version. I'm not sure if it works the same way on other versions, but you can leave a comment about it :)

So, how can we enable it and make it work?

Xdebug on MAMP

To enable Xdebug on MAMP is a very simple task.

You just need to see what is the php.ini file you are using:

$ php -i | grep ini

And you will see a line like:

MAMP with imap ssl

Unfortunately MAMP doesn't come with imap ssl support by default and GMail needs it when you are connecting through imap.

Just for the record, I'm posting this in the current version of MAMP, that is 2.1.1 and in the Mountain Lion OSX 10.8.1 version. I'm not sure if it works the same way on other versions, but you can leave a comment about it :)

You can check if your phpinfo has SSL Support enabled on the imap group.

Digitally sign your email messages on iPhone

You can read why you should digital sign your email messages here.

I assume that you already create your certificate, if not, you can read about it here.

If you send an email from your iPhone to your computer (or anyone), you'll see that isn't digital signed. This is because your iPhone isn't configured to use SMIME.

Digitally sign your email messages on Mail.app

So, why would you want to digital signing your email messages?

I believe it is good to prove that the email sent (and that the other person receives) is really from you and not from someone else pretending to be you. This is specially important when the content of the message is an action to be made. Therefore, digital signing will help the receiver to decide if he/she can trust the content of your email execute that action.

No lets, cut the crap and go down to business.

Use disqus on your Drupal website

As you can see I'm using DISQUS to moderate and allow comments on this blog.

This allows a much easier management of all the comments made on your website, due to several facts:

Email redirect to one user's account

If There are times when you wish your development stack could send some emails, there are times when you don't want them to be sent to the address that was meant to, but rather to yourself. This is crucial on a very volatile environments, where you have several applications and you are always changing from one project to another, and you might forget to change those email addresses that were brought from production! :(

Lets start by creating the /etc/postfix/virtual-regexp file with the following content:

Email relay configuration on your Mac OS X

There are times when you wish your development stack could send some emails. Well, there is an easy way to do that on the Mac OS X (this was tested from the SL, Lion and Mountain Lion, but it should work in other versions, as also with Unix-like systems that, of course, have Postfix installed).

Start by adding these settings to your /etc/postfix/main.cf file:

Long time no posting

If you are wondering why I haven't post anything around these days, it's because I got married and, among other things, I was helping my fiancée (now wife) to take care of the website. Most of the information is only for registered users (our guests :)), but feel free to see the videos :P

Then vacations (aka honeymoon) and also job change, so there is much to do and no time for it :)

Cheers!
